moVe-it: Optimization of spasticity treatment after stroke

June 8, 2024 | BTA News

  • Current | Project "moVe-it"

The Bavarian Telemedicine Alliance (BTA) is pleased to present the innovative ‘moVe-it’ project. The aim of this project is to improve the treatment of spasticity in stroke patients through advanced digital care management. It is based on interdisciplinary collaboration and the use of state-of-the-art telemedicine.

    Project goals and project measures

The ‘moVe-it’ project aims to improve the quality of life of patients with spasticity after a stroke. This is achieved by implementing botulinum toxin treatment in combination with physiotherapy. Digital care management plays a central role here, enabling continuous patient care.

    Duration and funding

If the consortium receives a funding commitment from the Innovation Fund at the end of the year, it would run for a period of 36 months from July 2025 to June 2028.

    Innovation fund and milestones

The ‘moVe-it’ project is being supported by the Innovation Fund as part of a two-stage process. We successfully passed the first stage in November 2023. The full application was submitted on 28 May 2024 and we are now eagerly awaiting the result in November 2024.

    Expected results

The targeted improvement in care and close interdisciplinary collaboration should reduce spasticity symptoms, improve patients' quality of life and reduce the burden on carers. Early and guideline-compliant treatment should also prevent long-term complications and reduce healthcare costs.

The Spasticity App for Your Health – Life after a Stroke

September 27, 2024 | BTA News

  • Current | The Spasticity App

The innovative spasticity app, developed by Prof Dr Siegfried Jedamzik with the support of Dr Friedemann Müller, Head of Neurological Early Rehabilitation & Rehabilitation at the Schön Klinik Bad Aibling Harthausen, now offers an innovative solution for patients and their families who are confronted with the consequences of a stroke.

An impressive example of the benefits of the spasticity app is the story of Mrs M. Huber, whose grandfather recently suffered a stroke. ‘It was a scary and uncertain time for our family,’ she says, ’but with the discovery of the spasticity app, we felt better equipped to deal with the challenges that a stroke brings.’

The spasticity app was developed specifically to help patients who have had a stroke to recognise the development of spasticity at an early stage. Spasticity is an abnormal increase in muscle tension caused by damage to the central nervous system and often develops within the first 30 days after a stroke.

Thanks to the intuitive user interface and the integrated 10-question traffic light questionnaire, users can quickly and easily determine whether they are showing signs of spasticity. ‘The app gave us clear recommendations as to whether or not we should seek further medical advice,’ adds Ms Huber.

Another advantage of the app is the comprehensive information on the treatment of spasticity with botulinum toxin. This drug, derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, has been proven to be an effective treatment for spasticity. The effect starts just a few days after the injection and usually lasts for three to four months.

‘We are really grateful for this app,’ says Mrs M. Huber. ‘It has not only helped us to orientate ourselves better during this difficult time, but also to offer my grandfather the best possible support.’

THEREFORE: Use the spasticity app and take your health into your own hands!

Dear sufferers and relatives, if you or a relative have recently suffered a stroke, you know how stressful the consequences can be. The Spastic App is here to support you!

With this innovative application you can:

✔ Detect spasticity early: With a simple 10-question test, you can recognise signs of spasticity at an early stage and act accordingly.

✔ Medical expertise: Find out in detail about spasticity and its treatment, in particular about effective treatment with botulinum toxin.

✔ Clear recommendations for action: Based on your test results, the app gives you clear recommendations on whether or not you should seek further medical advice.

✔ Multilingual support: The app is available in 9 different languages, so you get the best information in your native language.

Promoting health and wellbeing after a stroke is of paramount importance. Let the Spastic app accompany you on this journey. Download the Spastic app now for free from the App Store or Google Play Store and see the benefits for yourself!
